What operating systems does File Preserver support?
File Preserver runs on Microsoft Windows 98, 2000, and XP. File Preserver also requires NET 1.1, which the system installs automatically as part of the software download. Back to Top

How do I get started?
Download File Preserver for FREE. The program’s quick “Wizard-style” set up will walk you through the simple installation process that takes less than five minutes. Back to Top

How long will it take to back up my files?
Your first back-up may take some time. File Preserver will actually scan your hard drive looking for the most commonly used folders such as My Documents, Favorites, My Pictures, My Music, Outlook and others. Then, it will guide you through an easy process to help you decide which files to back up.

An automatic log window will show you what files are being scanned for back-up and what it will cost. File Preserver also gives you the option to customize your back-up by selecting only the specific files you want. Once the initial back-up is complete, subsequent back-ups will be much faster since File Preserver will only back-up any changes detected since your last session. Back to Top

Can I back up multiple PCs with one File Preserver account?
Yes, with File Preserver you can back up your desktop, your laptop, as many computers as you want. When you download and install the program on a new computer File Preserver uses your email address you enter in the Account Set Up to link all of PC’s files to one account. File Preserver will display a log that will show you all the files you have stored on each PC in your account. Since there is no surcharge per computer, you pay only for the combined storage space you use. Back to Top

What if I have a dial-up Internet connection?
While File Preserver works well with dial-up Internet, the connection speed controls the duration of the back-up process. Since dial up is much slower, the first back-up could take quite a while. Please be patient and know that it will get done. Afterward, subsequent back-ups will be significantly faster since File Preserver only backs up any changes detected since your last session. How will I know if my files backed up?
Once File Preserver completes the back up, a pop up window will be displayed giving you information about the back up. Additionally, you can look at the log to see what has happened during previous backups.

Remember if your machine is hibernating or not connected to the Internet, File Preserver will not launch an automatic backup. Back to Top

How secure is my data and password?
Your private data is protected by 480-bit encryption and is stored offsite in a state-of-the-art data facility where it is kept safe from crashes, fire, natural disasters and other causes of computer failure. How do I schedule my automatic back-ups?
File Preserver allows you to schedule monthly, weekly or daily online back-ups. The simple set-up process will guide you through initiating your preferred back-up schedule in just a few clicks. What if I have a firewall?
File Preserver is designed to work with firewalls, so automatic back-ups should function properly

What if the backup gets interrupted?
An automatic log function enables you to monitor the progress of your back-up sessions. If there are any problems, File Preserver will let you know. Typically, if a session is interrupted, the back-up will resume where it left off. Back to Top

How is my bill calculated?
The storage space you use every day is averaged over a month at a cost of only 1¢ per MB. Your bill is determined by this average. When you select a scan, your costs are shown on screen. You can change these costs by selecting or deselecting certain file types. With File Preserver, you pay only for the storage you use and you will never pay more than $9.99 a month—and that’s for unlimited space, even with multiple PCs and laptops on the same account. Where can I find my account information?
When you’re in the File Preserver program, select the “Account Management” tab on the left side of the screen. A billing history on your account will be displayed. Back to Top

What’s a “pass key?”
In addition to your secure password, File Preserver users are provided with an encryption pass key that ensures you are the only one who can access and restore your files online. This pass key is extremely important, so please safeguard it carefully. Our support staff does not have this information so they cannot decrypt your personal files. How do I restore my files?
Simply click “restore files” on the File Saver screen and select a destination to begin the restoration process. It’s that quick and easy. You will need your pass key to unlock the files restored to your computer. Back to Top
